Not every loop can be caught in the act.
Some last longer than our patience, memory, or lifetime. They return after spans of time that cannot be grasped at a glance. Some stretch so far across time that they look like forward motion. We see only a fragment. We fill in the gaps with a straight line and call it progress.
On this wall, repetition is not always immediately recognisable. The image may move too evenly, too smoothly, too quietly. Sometimes, only a single element returns. Everything else looks different, making it easy to mistake it for a new scene. But it is precisely this returning fragment that leaves a trace of the loop.
We might suspect that we have arrived somewhere in the middle of a process. Something will return later, when we are no longer sure whether we really saw it. Memory tries to help, but loses track of its own version number.
Something has been here before. Probably not at this scale. Probably not in this arrangement.
Not every loop can be caught in the act.

Tension
The impulse returns before the first one has even faded.
Some loops don’t ask for patience. They hit immediately. They return quickly, clearly, without negotiation. The image doesn’t unfold a story. It triggers a reaction.
Here, repetition is visible. It becomes structure, rhythm, tension. It can resemble a trained bodily reflex, digital overload, a painterly trance, or a chemical reaction seen from so close that it starts to look like a stellar explosion. Different languages, the same mechanism: the signal returns, and you are already one impulse further.
Trance does not appear here as a promise of transformation. Rather, as a side effect of repetition.
Repetition arrives here faster than interpretation.
First, you react.
Then, perhaps, you understand.
Or you don’t. That’s fine too.
The impulse returns before the first one has even faded.

Human Patterns brings together a selection of works inspired by everyday observations of contemporary life. Using surreal visual metaphors and transformed human bodies, the works explore recurring behaviours, social structures, relationships, desires, fears and contradictions. Individuals merge into crowds, become absorbed by systems, struggle with the need for connection, or confront the consequences of their own actions.
While each work focuses on a different subject, they share a common interest: the patterns we create, both as individuals and as a society. Some are beautiful, others absurd, and some deeply uncomfortable, but each reveals something about the way we live together. The works invite viewers to recognise themselves within these patterns and perhaps see them from a different perspective.

Tension
We have always been fascinated by repetition. Before the birth of cinema, there was the simple loop: the zoetrope, the flipbook, a mechanical gesture repeated endlessly as moving image. The loop is the first principle of animation — the moment when a still image is set into motion, pulsing again and again.
A loop is never an exact repetition. The moments we experience over and over change and tremble with each return. A line drawn again is already a different line. A point returning to its place comes back transformed, carrying the trace of every previous cycle.
To loop is to return, and to return is to arrive somewhere slightly changed.
The worlds presented in this programme emerge from simple loops. In Mizushiri’s Ordinary Life, everyday gestures dissolve into the ineffable experience of touch. Bucsi’s Intermission orchestrates bare lines that generate themselves in an ever-growing rhythm, breathing life into empty space. Murata’s Pink Dot sets a single point pulsing against a fragment of deteriorating film, until the image and its decay begin to beat with the same rhythm. Hong’s Deluge surrenders to a cycle of growth and multiplication, until the page is submerged in ink.
At this year’s Kinomural, we enter a loop state, moving inward, towards the patterns that shape perception. Here, we find the rhythmic pulse of a present that is constantly arriving: never the same, never complete.
The ceaseless rhythm of being alive.

* As part of BEDTIME STORIES, alongside a curated selection of works by artists from around the world, we will present works created especially for this year’s edition by students of the Academy of Fine Arts. The ASP section is curated by Agnieszka Jarząb, Maja Wolińska, Piotr Bartos and Bartek Bartos.
First there were parents and grandparents, bedtime stories read by the bedside, tales repeated so many times that we almost knew them by heart. Then came the evening cartoons — a few minutes of animation at the same familiar hour, a small sign that the day was really coming to an end.
BEDTIME STORIES has always been a ritual of return. The hour came back, the story came back, the familiar character came back. And that was precisely why it was possible to enter the night a little more peacefully.
This is a section created with children in mind, but open to everyone — including those who remember waiting for the evening cartoon and the moment when, afterwards, the world seemed a little softer, stranger and more ready for sleep.
This year, the characters, rhythms, colours and digital world of BEDTIME STORIES may behave differently than before. Letters will begin to pulse, shapes return in new arrangements, and sounds form recurring motifs.
At Kinomural, this ritual returns on a new scale: not beside the bed, not on the television, but across the walls of the city.
For the first time, BEDTIME STORIES will include a cash prize awarded to one of the works. The winning work will be selected by a children’s jury made up of nine pupils from Primary School No. 93, in whose schoolyard Kinomural has presented the BEDTIME STORIES section since 2022.

First, the film works on its own.
Then it returns.
The same film, but no longer quite the same. It passes through someone else’s consciousness — through their memory, language, associations and unease. It is not explained. Rather, it is activated anew. A second work emerges from the first: dependent on it, but not merely an annotation to it.
This year, BADTIME STORIES sits at the very heart of the idea of INFINITE LOOP. Here, repetition is not a technique, but a means of transformation. The same film returns in a different state. The same image begins to work differently when it passes through the sensibility of another artist, who carries it forward as a second, different iteration.
This year’s works were selected precisely for this mechanism: the loop of travel and memory, the rhythm of stimulation, the transformation of space. Each of them shifts something on its first cycle. On the second, that shift is not explained — it is deepened.
BADTIME STORIES begins where the film returns and ceases to be just a film.
The section is presented in collaboration with the Korelacje Festival. The audiovisual works by new media artists are accompanied by texts created and performed by acclaimed writers, poets, musicians and cultural figures. This is not a conventional audio description, but an innovative approach that opens up the world of animation to entirely new artistic interpretations. Bringing together new media artists and literary creators makes the works accessible to people with visual impairments, while offering all audiences a completely new way of experiencing them.

21 works selected from 908 submissions from more than 60 countries. Not a showcase of the “best loops”, but rather a polyphony of voices exploring why an image, a sound or an idea sometimes needs to return.
Here, repetition can be a choice. It can be a necessity. Sometimes it is a mistake, sometimes a ritual, a refrain, an obsession, an exercise, a system, a physiological response, or a way of testing whether a form still has the power to act.
In these works, the image does not always move forward. Sometimes it circles. It stops. It returns to the same point until it begins to reveal something that was invisible before. What was once in the background moves into the foreground.
A refrain does not drive the story.
A refrain stops it.
It returns to mark a moment and let it resonate.
ON REPEAT is a wall built on persistence — made up of works that refuse to end the first time around. Of loops that do not close off movement, but instead test what might happen to it next.
You will encounter works that do not demand interpretation. They demand presence.
