Fran Kurowska

Fran Kurowska is interested in the little trap hidden inside our biggest desires: the moment when something we dreamed of becomes normal, and we start searching for the next thing. A second-year Media Art student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, she works mainly with digital animation and photography, using images to explore emotions and create experiences rather than simply tell stories. She enjoys experimenting with tools and finding unexpected ways to translate feelings into visual form.

At Kinomural she presents Hedonic, an abstract animation inspired by the idea of hedonic adaptation, the strange human ability to get used to almost anything and start looking for the next thing. A shape at the centre of the work reacts to its changing surroundings, becoming brighter, larger and more vivid as the world around it grows more exciting. But no matter how far it goes, it always returns to its original form, repeating the endless loop of chasing more in order to feel complete again.
