Lavinia Petrache spent a decade in computer science across the United States and Switzerland before quietly walking away from it toward something more poetic: animation. Self-taught, originally from Romania and now based in Zürich, she made the leap not as a career move but as a change of universe, trading the logic of code for the delicate, imperfect logic of hand-made worlds.
At Kinomural she’s showing Fracti, her first short film, inspired by her own journey of change. Inside an ethereal village floating in the sky, humans live out their routines, each repeating the same actions over and over, each carrying the weight of their own imperfections. Then one of them decides to disturb the fragile equilibrium, and causes the world to end. As the fragments of the universe come apart and slowly draw back together, a new world forms, with its own delicate balance. A quiet film about how much has to break before something new can hold.
