Patrick Bergeron

Engineer, VFX artist, experimental filmmaker. Patrick Bergeron has never been just one thing. Based in Montreal, he modifies and manipulates image and sound at the level of individual details, exploring concepts of speed, memory and the relationship between what we see and what we hear. His practice mixes experimental film, animation and documentary into something that defies easy categorisation.

For fifteen years he worked in digital visual effects for the film industry, lending his skills to productions including The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix. The rest of the time, he makes work like LoopLoop: filmed on a train to Hanoi, a thousand images stitched into a single panoramic frame that runs endlessly forward and backward, mimicking the way memory replays moments, searching for forgotten details.
