Thomas Blanchard pours paint, lets insects crawl, freezes flowers in ice, watches liquids swirl and collide, and films all of it in extreme slow motion and macro. What sounds like a science experiment becomes, in his hands, something closer to poetry. The French video artist has spent years exploring the unexpected beauty hidden in natural materials, organic textures and chemical reactions, turning the microscopic and the fleeting into immersive, dreamlike worlds. His work has been shown at festivals and exhibitions worldwide, and his collaborations include a music video for Max Cooper’s Unspoken Words, which has become one of his most celebrated pieces. He has also created visuals for Apple’s iPhone X campaign, bringing his signature aesthetic to one of the world’s most recognisable brands.
For Kinomural he has created Inkstellation, an original new work composed of pre-existing macroscopic shots specifically re-edited for the festival. The original music was composed by Jonathan Fitas, with sound design developed in collaboration with Ocular Sounds.
