Wiktoria Kowalczyk likes to find out what happens when poetry becomes an image. A first-year MA student in Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, she previously graduated in Graphic Design from SWPS University. Her practice combines graphic design with printmaking, especially drypoint, bringing together traditional techniques with illustration and visual storytelling. She draws inspiration from nature, architecture and literature, using them as starting points for her own interpretations.
At Kinomural she presents Moralitet leśny (Forest Morality Play), her own interpretation of a poem by Wisława Szymborska, created primarily through analogue techniques. Every frame was drawn and altered by hand on paper before being scanned and assembled into an animation with a subtle retro feel. The film is an abstract reflection on our relationship with nature and the beauty we so often overlook. At the same time, it suggests that poetry doesn’t have to remain on the page—it can also live through movement and image.
