Graffiti, hardcore punk, electronic music. Not the most obvious route into animation, but for Emanuele Kabu it was the only one that made sense. Based in Venice, he made the shift in 2005 and hasn’t looked back since. His animations blend traditional and contemporary techniques into something robustly his own, earning him eleven Vimeo Staff Picks along the way. His client list is a genuine spread across music and culture: Adult Swim, Sub Pop Records, Janet Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Martin Garrix, DJ Snake, Little Dragon, Atlantic Records, Myss Keta and many more. Since 2021 he has also worked with London-based studio OMBRA DESIGN as art director for live music shows, putting his visuals behind Marracash, Elisa, Pinguini Tattici Nucleari and others.

Locked Groove turns repetition into a visual and sonic trance, building simple geometric shapes into evolving patterns that play on pareidolia, the urge to find hidden forms where there are none.
11 Years Ago is exactly that: a black-and-white paper loop from over a decade back, unearthed on an old hard drive and re-edited, set to a sample from Ricardo Villalobos’s Fizheuer Zieheuer.
And Adapting / Breathe keeps the whole thing honest, hand-drawn frame by frame.
