On this wall, repetition is not always immediately recognisable. The image may move too evenly, too smoothly, too quietly. Sometimes, only a single element returns. Everything else looks different, making it easy to mistake it for a new scene. But it is precisely this returning fragment that leaves a trace of the loop.
This wall brings together shorter, intense works in which repetition is a clear structural principle. A recurring impulse can resemble a trained bodily reflex, digital overload, a painterly trance, or a glitch. Here, repetition arrives faster than interpretation. First, you react. Only then, perhaps, do you understand. Or you don’t. That’s fine too.
Human Patterns brings together a selection of works inspired by observations of everyday contemporary life. Using surreal visual metaphors and transformed human bodies, Extraweg’s works explore recurring behaviours, social structures, relationships, desires, fears and contradictions.
A loop is never an exact repetition. A point returning to its place comes back transformed, carrying the trace of every previous cycle.
The worlds presented in this programme emerge from simple loops — we enter a state of repetition, moving inward, towards the patterns that shape perception. Here, we find the rhythmic pulse of a present that is constantly arriving: never the same, never complete.
DOBRANOCKA has always been a ritual of return — the familiar hour, the familiar story, the familiar character coming back again and again. This year, however, the characters, rhythms, colours and digital world of Dobranocka may behave differently than before. Letters begin to pulse, shapes return in new arrangements, and sounds fall into recurring motifs.
ZŁANOCKA goes straight to the heart of the idea of INFINITE LOOP. Here, repetition is not a technique, but a means of transformation. The same film returns in a different state. The same image begins to work differently when it passes through the sensibility of another artist, who carries it forward as a second, different iteration.
The section is available with an original audio description, prepared in collaboration with the Korelacje Festival and the Centre for Culture and Arts in Wrocław.
21 works selected from 908 submissions from more than 60 countries. Not a showcase of the “best loops”, but rather a polyphony of voices exploring why an image, a sound, an idea sometimes needs to return.
ON REPEAT is a wall built on persistence — made up of works that refuse to end the first time around. Of loops that do not close off movement, but instead ask what might happen to it next.
