Luísa Bacelar moved from Brazil to Hamburg in 2020 to pursue a Master’s degree in Film at HFBK, one of Germany’s most prestigious art schools. Before that, she studied Graphic Design at UEMG in Brazil. The result of this double education is a practice that sits comfortably between the two: analogue and digital, motion design and experimental animation, illustration and film.
She works across all of it, moving between techniques and registers depending on what the work demands. She currently lives and works in Hamburg as a motion designer and animator, and describes herself as someone who makes things weird.
At Kinomural she’s showing Wisdom Tooth.
Wisdom Tooth is a hand-drawn animation developed as a graduation project. A young woman tries to cope with her daily life, and loops and repetition become not just a narrative technique but a window into the surreal and the psyche. Something lurks beneath the monotony of the everyday.
The film has been shown at festivals in Brazil, Germany, the United States and at Ars Independent in Katowice.
