Jeremy Couillard

Jeremy Couillard is currently working on a game about trapping the world’s wealthiest people in an underground bunker and injecting them with souls. This tells you most of what you need to know. An artist, game designer and professor based in Kassel, Germany, he deploys humorous narratives about future dystopias to explore what motivates us as humans to work, live and create. His games are published by Akupara and have been nominated at the Independent Games Festival in San Francisco and for the Most Amazing award at A.MAZE fest in Berlin. His work has been shown at the MIT List Center, the New Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Times Square Midnight Moment and the Rotterdam Film Festival. He holds an MFA in Painting from Columbia University and teaches Games at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

He’s no stranger to Kinomural: we’ve shown his work before in the section curated by Peter Burr, and he returned to Wrocław as a guest for our debate. This year, in the BEDTIME STORIES section, he presents U, R U Us?, a music video for a track by Lobby Hotel, set in a cosmology originally created for his game Fuzz Dungeon. We descend through absurd layers of history as a rat-dog-witch, passing through strange museums, cosmic hallways and our own bad dreams. A chaotic mash-up of art, humour and a playable existential crisis.
