Aphex Twin. Flying Lotus. Thundercat. Eric Andre. Adult Swim. Alfie Dwyer doesn’t drop names like these without reason. Based in Bristol at Centrespace Studios, he has built a practice that moves fluidly between gallery walls and the world’s biggest stages, creating live visuals and moving-image works that have earned him a place alongside some of the most adventurous names in contemporary music and culture.
His practice explores the body as a fluid vessel through which time and space are experienced. Working with live video systems and feedback loops, he builds recursive, dreamlike environments where images accumulate, fall apart and return in altered forms. The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has shown his work. It’s Nice That has featured it. And now it’s coming to the walls of Wrocław.
At Kinomural he’s showing Time Tunnels.
Time Tunnels is a video collage built from live feedback experiments in Blender and OBS. Using a technique of his own development, Dwyer causes objects and animals to construct themselves in three dimensions inside the feedback loop, growing slice by slice. Animals, faces, landscapes and fragments of humanity repeat, but never identically. Each return is altered by overlapping forms and the painterly chaos of feedback, nesting into one another like unstable Russian dolls.
The work mirrors history’s cycles: forms and ideas are reborn, but reshaped by concurrent forces, so no return is ever the same. Textural sound design pulls the viewer into a visceral, dreamlike state where every loop demands renewed attention.
