Anna Koczyk keeps things short and to the point. A slam poet, performer and sociology PhD candidate all at once, she works primarily in one-minute forms and video poems: dense, intense, built on her own texts, her own music and cacophonous sounds, usually in mixed media. She collaborates with musicians on music videos and graphic projects, but her favourite work is what she can make entirely on her own terms, from start to finish.
The sociology is not incidental. Human, non-human and bodily relationships run through her work as theme, obsession and starting point.
Toksyczna Relacja (Toxic Relationship) is a grotesque piece about a perverse bond with one’s own body. It tells the story of a relationship full of tension, emotional extremes and constant dialogue between the self and the corporeal. Despite the intensity of these experiences, there is no resolution, only the dawning awareness of an inevitable permanence: the body cannot be discarded. The foot, more precisely its rear part, the heel, becomes at once a part of the subject and a partner in the relationship. This deepens the ambivalence and complicates acceptance, both of oneself and of the other in the interaction.
