Welcome to the Cyber Mystic Garden. That’s what Marcelo Pinel calls the world he builds through his animations. It’s a place where alchemy, metaphysics and ancient beliefs meet the digital aesthetics of the future. A Brazilian artist and graduate of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Pinel creates looping 3D animations filled with vivid colours, symbolic imagery and dreamlike visions. For years, he has been fascinated by alchemy, mythology, mysticism, tarot, archetypes and dreams. He sees each animation as another journey into this universe and a way of bringing ancient symbols back to life. The name Cyber Mystic Garden combines two ideas: “cyber mystic”, a phrase another artist once used to describe his work, and “garden”, a reference to his other passion. Pinel is an avid gardener, and he believes making art works much the same way. You have to nurture it, give it time, and patiently wait until it begins to take on a life of its own.
