Mariusz Wilczyński is a Polish animation director, painter, performer, and professor at the Film School in Łódź. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź in 1986 with a degree in painting. Initially active as a painter and performer, he later became a self-taught animator. He has been creating animated auteur cinema for over twenty years and is considered one of the most important contemporary animation creators. Wilczyński is known for his distinctive style that combines bittersweet and sardonic elements. He had retrospectives of his films at prestigious venues including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York (2007), The National Gallery in London, and the National Museum of Brasília.
