Dream is one of the most intimate human experiences. It is part of the consciousness we do not control, a distant light coming from realms we only rarely visit. We don‘t know what the worlds we navigate in dreams really are. Our conscioussness blindly maps them out together with its older siblings: the subconscious and the unconscious.
Psychologists exploring the nature of dreams point to a special category called „great dreams“. A characteristic trait that places a dream in the „great dreams“ category is an overwhelming urge to tell it to someone else – it is impossible to keep it to oneself. Indigenous peoples would share the stories of these dreams with the whole tribe, treating them as divine messages, to experience them collectively.
Therefore, if a dreamer connects to an astral switchboard, the mission of an artist is to extract and disclose the files stored in this secret archive. Kinomural offers a possibility to publish those secrets in the large scale of empty walls in an urban setting. A time when the only thing glowing in the dark are your dreams.
Altered states of consciousness are a subject of this year‘s open call for works to be presented at Kinomural 2023. Show us your archives of events, experiences and images from the lives you live after you fall asleep. We are interested in trance, shamanism, alchemy, and astral bodies. We dig lucid dreams, bad trip, and psychomagic.
